Joanell is a southern California artist whose focus is working in fabric.  She dyes, stamps, pieces, quilts, stencils, digitally prints on, and embellishes fabric.  A silk painting class 20 years ago led to a successful career as a wearable and art quilt artist.  A love of colors – bright, contrasting, competitive – defines her style.  Words are often an integral part of her more personal work.

As an art quilter, Joanell has participated in national and international juried shows, including the Husqvarna Viking Masterpiece show. Currently her quilt “Sees” is traveling with the Sky’s the Limit special exhibit.  “Sees” can be seen in Houston at Quilt Market and Quilt Festival in Nov. 2007, Chicago spring 2008 and the new Long Beach IQA show in July of 2008.

As a Bernina and Fairfield designer, her wearable artwork has been featured in several books and magazines.  Joanell was a juror and assistant curator at the Fifth Biennial Wearable Expressions Exhibition at the Palos Verdes Art Center, Rancho Palos Verdes California, 2006.

Joanell’s Silk Portals, a “how to silk paint”, feature appeared in the April-May ‘07 issue of Quilting Arts Magazine.  This inspired a challenge and those art quilts can be seen in the October-November and December-January issues of Quilting Arts Magazine.
